Box Office Sales for Korean Movies Plunges 10%

Box office sales for Korean movies from January to November this year dropped by around 10 points compared to 2007.

A report by CGV, the country’s largest multiplex chain, shows that out of 135 million moviegoers nationwide, around 40 percent went to see Korean films. This is down from 50 percent last year and 65 percent in 2006. But with a string of Korean movies released in November, ticket sales grew almost 4 percent from the previous month.

But December could to be yet another test for the domestic film market with the release of foreign blockbusters such as “Australia,” “Twilight” and “Yes Man.”
