Star figure skater Kim Yu-na is in the final stage of preparation for the 2008-2009 season. IB Sports, her management agency, on Tuesday said Kim has chosen “Gold,” the title song of a 2002 album by Linda Eder, as the background music for her performance for a figure skating gala in the new season.

Eder is a Broadway musical actress widely known in Korea. “Once upon a Dream,” the song Kim used for her program during last season’s gala, is part of the musical “Jekyll & Hyde,” in which Eder played a part.

Since her debut in senior figure skating championships, Kim has used music such as “Reflection” from the film “Mulan,” “Just a Girl” by group “No Doubt,” “Only Hope” by singer Mandy Moore, and “Once upon a Dream.” During the upcoming season, Kim will perform to the accompaniment of “Gold” recommended by choreographer David Wilson and “Only Hope,” with which she won acclaim last season.

Kim is practicing in Toronto. She has not decided yet what she will wear for competitions. For a short program, she chose “Danse Macabre” by Camille Saint-Saens, and for free skating “Scheherazade” by Rimsky-Korsakov. Her principle is that her dress should make a different impression in each performance. She is expected to announce her selection among various outfits she has asked Canadian and Korean designers to make.

Kim will begin her 2008-2009 season with the first event of the International Skating Union Grand Prix of Figure Skating in Everett, Washington on Oct. 23-25. The top six contenders of the first event and third event, which will be held in Beijing on Nov. 6-9, will advance into the Grand Prix Final to be held in Korea from Dec. 10 to 14.

The upcoming season concurrently serves as a preseason event for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010. As a figure skater who has won the first prize in the Grand Prix Final and the third prize in the world championships for two consecutive years, Kim has set her sights high.
